VIC BLAKE – WRITER

Vic Blake is a writer of both fiction and non-fiction, although more recently he has turned his attention much more to fiction.
On this site you will find examples of his finished poetry and other writing, as well as updates on projects currently in-hand.

He has recently published ‘So anway…  a collection of short stories’ and has completed a collection of poetry which is due to be published soon. He is also currently working on a novel. ‘The Name of the Witch’, which he hopes to finish before the end of 2022.

His work draws upon an extensive range of experience, both personal and professional, drawing – among other things – upon his insights into criminology, sociology, psychotherapy, philosophy and gender studies, as well as his own complex background and his time spent living in Galicia in the North West of Spain.

He describes his work as being a sustained, if mostly gentle assault upon the Comfort Zone.

Never upset a poet
Vic Blake

Never upset a poet
For he’ll take your ill-spent words
And turn them into pythons
And crocodiles, and birds.
And pythons may constrict your heart,
And crocodiles may bite,
And birds may fly around your head
So you cannot sleep at night.

Be mindful of the poet
For the poet stands apart,
And sees the magic of this world
In the beating of our hearts.
He’ll find the words that we cannot,
Whole worlds within a flower,
And sunshine on the darkest days
To light our lonely hours.

And should you love a poet
He will take your mundane things
And turn them into butterflies
On brightly-coloured wings.
He will cup your heart in loving hands
Like a tiny fledgling bird,
And let fly a murmuration
Of a thousand loving words.
